The Department of philosophy and Islamic Studies is one of the Departments of the school of Humanities at the Libyan Academy.it has started its scientific activity since 2002. The department has been given several names since its establishment, including Philosophy, Religious Thought and the Department of interpretation. in 2013, the department was given a new name, which is the” Department of philosophy and Islamic Studies “and consists of two divisions, the first is the philosophy division and the other is the Islamic Studies Division.

Continuous development of educational and scientific research processes in the fields of philosophy and Islamic Studies and addressing community issues through study and analysis, through the quality of education provided to the student, to achieve excellence and advancement, in harmony with the general vision of the school of Humanities in particular and in full accordance with the general vision of the Libyan Academy.

The mission of the department is to prepare cadres and graduates who are scientifically, educationally and professionally qualified, and to develop scientific research to enrich human knowledge in a way that ensures raising the level of human development in society, in the fields of philosophy and Islamic Studies, and in line with the need of society for these disciplines, according to the moderation and moderation approach that came by Sharia glue, and the principle of achieving and equalizing opportunities for all, and contribute to addressing community issues within the scope of the Department's specialization through scientific research work. 

Based on the important impact of teaching philosophy and Islamic Studies in higher education on the Enlightenment of the student's mentality, and in order to qualify a conscious person who is able to absorb mental curricula and revive philosophical culture in society, and from the side of Islamic studies, it aims to form and qualify cadres from a scientific point of view, according to the:-

1. Preparing specialized cadres of researchers and professors who are able to contribute to the development of education and scientific research in the fields of philosophy and Islamic studies.
2. Continuous development of human development programs and preparation of specialized cadres in philosophy and Islamic Studies in accordance with the spirit of moderation and moderation called for by the true Islamic religion among science students, and directing their attention to the rejection of hyperbole, extremism, intellectual deviations and the wave of destructive currents.
3. Linking the student with his Islamic roots, preserving his Islamic identity and its cultural heritage, and working to restore the soul to that heritage through the scientific research work that falls on him.
4. The department aims to contribute to the research of Sharia issues and contemporary Fish issues, and draw the attention of researchers to them, which leads to finding solutions to them in line with the development of time and different eras.
5. The department aims to connect students with the contemporary issues of the Islamic nation in terms of its intellectual, spiritual, political and social reality, to identify the relationship of the Islamic nation with other nations and other religions, and to advocate for peaceful coexistence between nations.
6. The department aims to extend bridges of cooperation with its counterparts from the branches of the Libyan Academy first and with other educational institutions from universities, colleges and institutes in order to achieve the objectives of the department in terms of exchanging experiences, especially in the fields of scientific research in terms of supervision and discussion of scientific theses.
7. Formation of researchers who possess the ability to philosophical and legitimate foundations, carry out scientific studies and research necessary for the development of society, develop their abilities for logical analysis, critical sense in his studies of fiqh doctrines and various intellectual trends, provide them with scientific research tools and methods, instill a spirit of love for research, knowledge and knowledge
8. The department aims to develop the Queen of deduction, analysis and extrapolation among researchers in the studies of curricula and choices of the owners of the cultural heritage of the Islamic nation, and others who have taken care of Islamic thought and culture.
9. The department aims to contribute to the revival of the Islamic heritage by studying and re-realizing that heritage and directing researchers towards the realization of manuscripts.
